Visitor Use Management in Wilderness

These courses are hosted by the Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center.

Fundamentals

This is the first in a series of three courses in the Visitor Use Management course of study and is designed to introduce you to the fundamental principles of Visitor Use Management.

There is one strongly recommended prerequisite for this course, The Wilderness Act of 1964. It is also recommended that you take the other Visitor Use Management courses in series: Strategies, and Monitoring.

Strategies

This is the second in a series of three courses in the Visitor Use Management course of study. This course contains four modules that explain management strategies in general and specific strategies to address biophysical and social impacts, including visitor education and the essential role it plays in managing visitor use.

Monitoring

This is the third in a series of three courses in the Visitor Use Managementt course of study and contains four modules that introduce the process for monitoring campsites, trail impacts, and visitor use. An optional section on monitoring visitor encounters is also included.
